Welcome to Enrichment in the Fall 2016
Our annual Enrichment in the Fall program returns this October 14 – 22
Whether you are a foodie or not, the theme of this October's Enrichment Program will definitely raise your interest! We have been creating a fantastic program for you around the theme of 'FOOD FOR ALL', during which you will have the opportunity to explore all the aspects of food, from plant science research to cuisine and nutrition through a wide variety of events. You will be astounded at our keynotes and brown bag series with speakers ranging from Fred Davies from Texas A&M University, who asks ‘Can we feed the world?’, to John Bedbrook, Chairman of DiCE Molecules LLC, exploring the role of genetic technology. Bettina Berger, Scientific Director of The Plant Accelerator at the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility, will be leading a discussion on women in biology; and Amna Malik will share her long experience as dietician, helping us understand what is a healthy diet. The German cook Bernd Arold will also be our guest culinary star!
Enrichment in the Fall offers a number of core events and community opportunities for all ages and interests. We are proud to start our program with an Opening Night Extravaganza on Sunday, October 16 for the community to celebrate the World Food Day. Join us to participate in a food waste awareness campaign, coordinated with the Student Green Group and the KAUST community. There will be various activities and booths for everyone! We will also unveil a photo exhibit showcasing the ‘Markets of the World’ – artwork done by very talented KAUST photographers. And you will not want to miss the family baroque music concert that night featuring the great Pera Ensemble!
This Fall program provides an opportunity to showcase and present the plant science research being done at KAUST with visits to the Greenhouse, another Sci-café, and the brown bag series featuring KAUST scientists. It also gives a chance for the Enrichment Office to support great initiatives such as the Cook Hub project, which empowers Thuwal women's cuisine in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Center. With all this, along with exciting cooking demonstrations, five food-related movies and documentaries such as 'Ratatouille' and 'Just Eat It', a trip to the Jeddah fish market and many other activities for the entire family, we hope you will be able to enjoy food and how it is grown, in all kinds of ways.
ALSO! To help parents enjoy the week, we have added an exceptional babysitting service, which will be offered every night of our program.
