Marine Biodiversity

The oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface. Our ecosystem depends on them to maintain its vital functions. From microbes to whales, how much do we know about the marine biodiversity that populates the oceans? How resilient are they and what makes them resistant to global pressures?

This year's Enrichment in the Fall program, chaired by Omar Knio, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science, was entitled "Marine Biodiversity" and took place from October 20-23, 2018.

Participants immersed in four keynote lectures; a musical event by the KAUST Ensembles; a marine film festival; a marine photo contest and exhibition; Facebook on-air interviews, mangroves and birds guided tours, and much more.

The theme has been inspired by the workshop “The Future of Red Sea Biodiversity” organized by the Red Sea Research Center, which took place at KAUST from October 23-25, 2018.
