About

OUR MISSION

KAUST's Office of Enrichment Programs was created to draw faculty members, students, staff, partners, collaborators, and community members out of their daily routines and into a curated program of expansive thinking. The programs are shaped to educate, inspire, and contribute to the community, the Kingdom, and the world. We believe in enrichment for all!

Under the umbrella of the Office of the Provost, the Office of Enrichment Programs produces and delivers a fortnight-long hallmark event at KAUST Winter Enrichment Programs (WEP), TEDx KAUST, and the Artists-in-labs programs. The Office of Enrichment Programs puts on events designed to enrich and inspire participants: lectures, workshops, entrepreneurial, cultural, and recreational activities that are not typically found in academic programs.

The Winter Enrichment Program at KAUST (WEP)

The Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) is a two-week program unlike any other. Designed and produced by KAUST, WEP is created to unleash the creativity of participants. Since 2010, WEP has proudly hosted Nobel laureates, CEOs, ministers, elite athletes, academics from leading universities, eminent international speakers, artists, and distinguished local and regional leaders and decision-makers. WEP 2022 will run from January 9 to 20 under the theme Resilience and it will be a hybrid program consisting of both virtual and physical events on campus.

TEDxKAUST

The third TEDxKAUST event at KAUST took place on Saturday, April 10, 2021, under the theme True Grit. This event was produced by the Office of Enrichment Programs with the support of a student committee and the Office of the Arts. The talks and performances are available on TEDx's YouTube channel.

Artists-in-labs

As part of this mission to connect art and science, in 2016, KAUST started a partnership through the Enrichment of Office with the artists-in-labs program (AIL) of ZHdK. The partnership brings a collaboration between scientists and artists to enhance the dialogue between art and science and is co-financed by KAUST, Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, and Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
