Introduce your family to the home and sounds of jazz with Disney's stunning animated fairy tale The Princess and the Frog.
Set largely in the New Orleans’ French Quarter of the 1920s, as well as deep in Louisiana swamps, ‘The Princess and the Frog’ is a twist on the classic ‘Frog Princess’ children novel by E. D. Baker (which is in turn based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale ‘The Frog Prince’) that introduces the world to Disney's first African-American princess.
This film tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of owning her own restaurant. After kissing a prince to reverse a voodoo curse that turned him into a frog, she joins him as a frog, sending them both racing through the swamps in search of a way to return them to human form.
Given the importance of New Orleans to the development of jazz, songwriter and composer Randy Newman (who spent much of his childhood in New Orleans) filled the movie with jazz and later music styles, running the gamut of local musical styles, from jazz to blues and gospel to zydeco.
This movie is part of the Jazz Festival. A short introduction by Marie-Laure Boulot, Director of Enrichment Programs, will precede the screening.
