Bruce Logan
Bruce Logan is the Kappe Professor of Environmental Engineering at Penn State University, and Director of the Engineering Energy & Environmental Institute. He has published over 300 journal papers and several books (including one on microbial fuel cells), and works in a variety of research areas including bioenergy production, bioremediation, environmental transport processes, colloidal dynamics, and microbial adhesion. Dr. Logan is also a visiting professor at Newcastle University in the UK, Harbin Institute of Technology and Dalian University of Technology in China, and he is an Investigator with the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia.

Ghassan Jabbour
Director of KAUST’s Solar and Alternative Energy Engineering Research Center Ghassan E. Jabbour, Ph.D, SPIE Fellow: He was the Director of the Advanced Photovoltaics, Director of Research-Optoelectronic Materials and Devices at the Flexible Display Center (FDC), and a Professor of the School of Materials at Arizona State University (ASU). Prior to Professor Jabbour was on the faculty of Optical Sciences Center where he still holds an adjunct research professor appointment. Professor Jabbour is also an adjunct research faculty at ASU, and Imperial College in London. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE JDT. He is also on the Editorial Board of the New Journal of Recent Patents on Materials Science. Professor Jabbour is a Guest Editor for the MRS Bulletin issue on Organic Photovoltaics (January 2005). He is also the chair and/or co-chair and on the committees of over 150 conferences related to photonic and electronic properties as well as printing of electronic and photonic materials and devices. Professor Jabbour attended Northern Arizona University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Arizona. His research projects include Solar Cells, Energy Storage, Flexible Nanothick Electronics and Photonics; Nano and Macro Printed and Patterned Optical, Electronic and Optoelectronic Materials and Devices; Prof. Jabbour has more than 400 papers, invited talks and proceedings. He holds several patents and has edited several books related to the areas of energy, nanotechnology, and functional optoelectronics. Prof. Jabbour’s work has been featured by editors of Nature, Nature Photonics, Science, MRS Bulletin, Advanced Materials (four times on cover of journal), MIT Technology Review, USA Today, Boston Globe, CNN, FOX News, LA Times, PC magazine, etc. Prof. Jabbour is a Fellow of SPIE for his numerous and significant contributions to the field of flexible, printed and organic electronics. Among the achievements of his group are the demonstration of the first printed photovoltaic cell using soft materials, whitish excimer based organic light emitting diode with nearly 100% internal quantum efficiency, first inkjet printed and patterned RGB quantum dot light emitting diode, first screen printed nanothick OLED, and many other advances. For his noted accomplishments in printed electronics and photonics, Professor Jabbour received the prestigious Academy of Finland Distinguished Professor award . In 2006, he received the Best Poster Award (jointly awarded by the USA National Academy of Engineering / the Engineering Academy of Japan, and the Japan Science and Technology Agency). He is currently the Director of KAUST Center for Solar and Photovoltaics Engineering Research Center, a Named Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professor of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Jabbour is Rawabi Holdings Research Chair in Solar and Voltaics, the first endowed chair given to a professor at KAUST. In 2011, Prof. Jabbour was elected to the rank of Fellow of the European Optical Society. His election recognizes his “outstanding contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics and photonics, his role inside the optical community, his great support for the European Optical Society, and especially for his contributions and innovations in printed and flexible nanothick photonics and photovoltaics.” .

Jan Korsgaard
The lecturer is a senior project manager currently engaged as the production manager on the London Array Limited off-shore wind farm in the Thames estuary. He has 25 years plus of international experience in the civil works industry notably with larger projects. He has extensively been working with near shore and off-shore projects like costal protection, windfarm, harbours etc. He has held positions in government, contractors and with designers. Most recent academic achievement is an Executive MBA.

Korneel Rabaey
Professor Korneel Rabaey is faculty member at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University, as well as a 10% Senior Research Fellow at the Advanced Water Management Centre, The University of Queensland. He received his B.S. (1999), M.S. Bio-Engineering spec. Environmental technology (2001) and PhD (2005) degrees at Ghent University. His PhD was under the supervision of Prof. Willy Verstraete and dealt with the development of microbial fuel cells for wastewater treatment. During his PhD, he made several breakthroughs leading to higher power/current production and novel process uses for e.g. sulfur and nitrogen removal. Based on this the concept of Bioelectrochemical Systems (BESs) emerged. After moving to Australia for postdoctoral and later faculty positions he further developed the BESs concept, leading to today's processes for production of caustic, peroxide and biochemicals. Prof Rabaey's current research focuses on bioelectrochemical process and technology development, as well as the fundamental understanding of the interface between microorganisms and polarized surfaces. The latter interaction is not well understood, and is critical towards developing bioelectrochemical processes. Part of his work also focuses on the ecological interactions between members of electroactive communities. Prof. Rabaey has extensive experience in industry related projects and technology development. He has published over 65 papers within this field, attracting over 3,500 citations, and is inventor on 8 patents/patent applications. Presently prof. Rabaey is one of the three faculty within the Laboratory of Microbial Ecology and Technology (LabMET).

Largus Angenent
Professor Largus (Lars) Angenent is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He got his BS and MS degrees from Wageningen University (Netherlands), his PhD degree from Iowa State University, worked at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Colorado at Boulder as post-doctoral research associates, and at Washington University in St. Louis (Missouri) as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Angenent holds a US patent and has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles, 7 book chapters, and one book. His recent awards include the Kavli Fellow Award from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2008 and the NSF CAREER award from the US National Science Foundation in 2007. Dr. Angenent is entrepreneurial and has started a company. The tenet of his research career has been the study of open cultures of microbial consortia. One of the most important aspects of Dr. Angenent’s work with open-culture systems is that he integrates them within biorefineries. In the biorefinery concept of converting biomass into fuels, the value of each stream is maximized, and therefore streams are not wasted. Rather, all waste streams are converted to additional biofuels, while simultaneously recycling nutrients and water. His open-culture approach, which he calls the “carboxylate platform” in reference to the formed intermediate or end compounds, is integral to biorefineries in that it allows all waste streams, even those formed from traditional single-species systems, to be used.

Chairman of N.ERGHY and member of the Governing Board of the JU JTI FCH, European Joint technology initiative on Hydrogen HFC, French representative on two International governmental agreements at IPHE (International Partnership on Hydrogen Economy) and executive committee member of HIA of International Energy Agency, Vice-Chair of AFHYPAC French hydrogen association and platform from 2010. Member of expert national committee for the national debate on energy in France (2013). Former CEA Programme Director (2005-2009) of New Technologies for Energy research programmed with a Budget around 80 M€ in 2009, focused on hydrogen and fuel cells, batteries, biofuels and solar energy and project manager (2000-2005). William Koros
William J. Koros—Roberto C. Goizueta Chair in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA USA. Dr.Koros is a global leader in the area of technology-enabled energy efficiency for large scale chemical-related industries. He was selected by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) to deliver the Institute Lecture covering these themes at the 2011 National meeting in October. A member of the National Academy of Engineering and recipient of many international awards, he has published more than 300 articles and holds 14 US Patents.
