DescriptionThis course will focus on leveraging Cloud Computing infrastructure and programming models for High Performance Computing. It will start by introducing basic Cloud Computing concepts such as Iaas, PaaS Cloud paradigms, and Storage Cloud with live illustrations based on commercially available Clouds such as Amazon EC2, Google App Engine. It will provide hands-on experience and explain underlying technologies for making students and academics comfortable using Cloud technologies and platforms.;;The second part of this course will focus on underlying key research challenges in large scale storage and compute cloud, extreme resource scaling, and big data analytics. We shall examine several Cloud usage scenarios.
Dr. Sahu has been a research staff member at IBM since 2000. Dr. Sahu received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University of Massachusetts at Amherst. After joining IBM Research, Dr. Sahu has focused on systems and network services management, content distribution network and data center networking and more recently on cloud computing and smarter planet solutions. He has led a team of researchers and engineers to develop Smarter Water and Smarter Energy solutions and analytics on Cloud platforms for citywide deployments. Dr. Sahu has more than 50 technical papers and 60 patents filed in these areas. He is the founding chair of Usenix/ACM HotCloud workshop which has been well received in the Cloud/Systems community. Dr. Sahu has a best paper award at ACM Internet Measurement Conference 2006. Dr. Sahu teaches a graduate level course on Cloud Computing at Columbia University as an adjunct Associate Professor in the department of Computer Science.
