This advanced class is a part of the program of the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Workshop, which is aimed at presenting the major concepts of Chinese painting and calligraphy. The full program contains a main lecture of introduction, including the history, spirits and comparative studies, followed by a series of hands-on courses to help students accomplishing their own Chinese painting and calligraphy artworks. An exhibition accompanying this workshop will exhibit mostly the instructor's artworks and collections, as well as later on the students' own artworks. The instructor Mr. Peng will also illustrate the creation of a new piece of artwork as a performance in the opening reception of the exhibition. For this part of the whole program, Advanced Class A, each student will be taught first the same materials as the beginner's class, however, in a faster but possibly less solid pace: - Holding a Chinese bamboo brush correctly, freely and relaxed; - Familiarizing with water writing fabric, and Chinese rice paper; - Painting basic lines with a Chinese brush; - The usage of water and Chinese ink; - Writing of the Chinese character "Yong", "永", which contains the most important eight different elements for Chinese calligraphy; - Writing of Chinese characters for "Chinese Painting": "中国画", and other characters per students' interests; - Painting the basic elements of a bamboo: bamboo leaves, bamboo branches, bamboo sticks, and bamboo joints. Bamboo is one of the "four gentlemen", with a long history of appreciation for its symbolic spirits of resoluteness, honesty and modesty from the classic Chinese culture:; - Finishing a painting of Chinese bamboo; As this is an advanced class, students are more encouraged to bring their own interests into their creation of Chinese style artworks, or combine their original skills with this Chinese style expression. Chinese ink landscape painting, more variations of Chinese ink flower and bird painting, different styles of Chinese calligraphy, though challenging, could be the aim of the ambitious students. Final painting and calligraphy art works of students will be exhibited. The students of the five best artworks will be presented a calligraphy artwork from the instructor Mr. Peng as a gift. There're beginner's class offered at the same time, if you would like to develop more solid fundamental skills in Chinese painting and calligraphy, you are encouraged to take the the beginner's class A or B instead or parallel.
