Description
Two lectures dedicated to 1) the heavy metal accumulation in Saudi Arabia 2) pollutant removal using algae and plants. There are many industrial sites in Saudi Arabia polluted by heavy metals and pesticides. Geography of sites (such as in Wadi Hanifa) will be presented. Some algae and plants are suitable for identification of these pollutants. Biosorption of heavy metals by algae and aquatic plants will be discussed. Heavy metal concentrations in macro algae from Jubail and Yanbu industrial regions will be presented. Methods for accumulation of heavy metals and their removal using algae and plants will be elaborated.
