Description
When I think of Arab women I find myself thinking of numerous words to describe them. At times they are known as the “mystic of Arabic poetry,” and at other times they are described as the backbone of the family and the motivation for every successful man. But with all the countless words that can be used to describe Arab women and their personalities, and the numerous examples of iconic Arab females that we can give, these positive perspectives are rarely found in languages other than Arabic.. The media, it seems, typically focuses on how Arab women are discriminated against, restricted, and deprived of their freedoms and rights. This, of course, isn’t necessarily always the case and there is definitely the other side that deserves to be elaborated upon. For that reason, I am excited to present the side that has been frequently unrevealed about Arab women; their strong personalities, wise minds, inward and outward beauty, and their relationships with their families, in addition to their role in the society. I will also provide examples of long-standing iconic Arab females who are still considered as remarkable icons in Arabic history in fields as different as politics and war tactics to poetry and art. The presentation will consist of two main parts: 1. Arab Women Overview: will describe the Arab women's personalities and ways of thinking and their relationship to their family, society, and own beauty; 2. Iconic Arab Women: will give examples of icons throughout history and from different perspectives
