VR is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, quickly becoming one of the top hiring fields among tech companies. Uses of VR range from popular gaming and entertainment to very specialized engineering and scientific applications, where experts can explore complex multidimensional datasets or intricate engineering designs, easily pushing the limits of what is possible. Because, in VR, anything is possible!

During four full-day sessions (Monday to Thursday), two expert instructors will provide basic and advanced training on developing and creating VR applications using Unity and the HTC Vive VR headset. 24 students will participate in the training and then, in teams of four, will develop their own applications during two days of hackathon (Friday and Saturday). Pushing the limits of engineering and science is the theme of WEP 2017, so VR prototypes that follow that subject will be encouraged.
The training will be divided in two sections, one for programmers and one for non-programmers. There will also be common sessions between the two groups and hackathon teams will be created with a mix of coders and non-coders.
In order to make the event a success we are going to select a mix of backgrounds and form multidisciplinary teams for the hackathon. Computer scientists, visual designers, engineers, architects, artists, mathematicians, etc. are encouraged to apply. We will review each application and organize teams from the selected participants. Applications and prototypes developed will be showcased at a public event on the last day of the hackathon.
This event is organized by the Visualization Core Lab and supported by the Office of Enrichment Programs, the Visualization Core Lab and the Visual Computing Center, and Effat University’s Virtual Reality Center.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: All registrants will be automatically waitlisted during the review of the applications. Once your application is approved, you will be notified and officially added to the VR Training and Hackathon event. We encourage you to register for other credits in the event that your application is denied.
Previously developing games at his own company, Ciro joined Unity as Tech Evangelist for the EMEA region. His role involves travelling far and wide to spread the word about Unity, showcasing new features and advocating good development practices, although you’ll also hear a lot about game design for which he has a soft spot. He also has a passion for education and teaching, and is a restless advocate for game jams as a learning opportunity.

Oliver created his first commercially successful game at the age of 14. Back then, commercially successful meant doubling the monthly allowance. Success was easier that way.
He studied Animation & Games at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt and finished his bachelor degree in 2011. Immediately afterwards he created his own development studio “Hammer Labs” and released his first game “Farm for your Life” in 2013.
He is currently working on a new console game called “Super Sky Arena” and he is the coding-co-founder of the German based Virtual Reality Arcade "Holocafé".

Hammer Labs is a small game development studio founded by Oliver Eberlei in 2013, shortly after he has graduated from university. The company serves as an umbrella to unify all his creative projects and each game is created by different amazing creators he likes to work with. It’s a place of experimentation and creation which manifests in the wide spectrum of PC, Console and VR games. The name symbolizes the nature of developing games - science vs. craft.
