KAUST potter Chris Newns presents the technics and the Art of Ceramics and will answer questions from the audience.
Chris Newns started learning about ceramics while at university in the UK training to be a teacher. He learned how to throw pots and to build ceramic ware by hand – making pinch pots, coil pots and slab ware.
Since those early days, he has travelled around the world as a teacher and managed to practice his craft. The country which had the most influence on his ceramic style was Japan and its fascinatingly diverse style of pottery – distorting thrown ware on the wheel, adding bubbly glazes and generally breaking all the rules he had learned in the UK!
Chris has worked with young children and adults and he is looking forward very much to sharing his skills with a group of students in WEP 2017.
